They shipped a frontier mind that fit on two desks.

Muse Spark Open. Meta. Weights released 2026-10-15.

On that day Meta published the open weights for Muse Spark Open: a natively multimodal model with 816 billion total parameters, 42 billion active, and a one-million-token context window. Built for coding and long-horizon agents. Hosted on the usual clouds — and, for the first time in its class, runnable at home on two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studios through MLX. The license carried limited commercial terms. The press called it open. The ledger called it a transfer of custody.

The frontier stopped being a ticketed destination. It became furniture.

From 2050 we file Muse Spark Open under Second Renaissance open strata: the moment ancestors proved that a living-room rack could hold what once required a campus, and that “open weight” meant the cathedral no longer needed a ticket — only power, memory, and the nerve to run it yourself.

Weights on a desk — or intelligence still behind a wall: they chose the desk.
